Gravel gardens are "in" - no wonder, after all, these often very well thought-out areas are not only beautiful to look at, but also very easy to care for. Anyone who has no experience with creating such a garden can confidently leave it to an experienced gardener - or read up on it extensively and lend a hand yourself. How much money is spent on the system ultimately depends on various factors.

The cost varies depending on the items

Costs vary greatly

How expensive (or cheap) the finished gravel garden will be cannot be specifically quantified. Too many factors play a role, which of course influence the final price. This includes, for example, whether the location is already optimal - or whether it has to be made "suitable" first - for example by excavating and replacing the floor. A complete soil replacement, possibly with an expensive removal of the excavation (in old gardens there are often unpleasant surprises such as buried rubble containing asbestos), is of course not to be had for the proverbial apple and egg. Other price-influencing factors are

  • the planned size of the gravel garden
  • the planned style with the associated planting
  • how many plants - and which species - to buy
  • which stone types are selected
  • and where to get them from
  • whether the garden will have a border made of granite stones, for example
  • or a fence, or a low wall, or a hedge
  • which other decorative elements are to be installed
  • or maybe even a little arbor or bridge like in a Japanese garden
  • whether a stream and/or a pond also belong to the ensemble
  • or, or, or…

The options for making a gravel garden expensive or cheap are just as diverse as the design options themselves.

Let the gardener create a gravel garden

Of course you can save yourself the effort and hire a gardener to do the planting. Depending on the size and scope of the work that may be required, allow for several thousand euros in costs. After all, in this case you pay not only the material costs, but also the personnel and labor costs. If you need help with the planning, you can also simply ask the gardener for advice (for a corresponding hourly rate, of course) and do the work yourself.

tips

You can save on the gravel used by not necessarily choosing an unusual type of stone or by obtaining the stones (which can be very heavy depending on the size of the garden) from sources that are as close as possible.
