You can propagate fan palms yourself from seeds. But you need a lot of patience for this, because it takes a lot of time for a real palm tree to grow from a seed. This is how the propagation of a fan palm works.

Propagating fan palms from seed
You can grow a fan palm from seeds. Seeds are available from garden supply stores. In our latitudes, it is unlikely that an existing fan palm will produce seeds itself.
When is the best time for sowing?
Unlike many other plants, sow fan palms in late summer or fall.
How to propagate fan palms from seed
- Soak the seeds in lukewarm water
- Prepare seed pots (16.68€).
- lay out seeds
- cover lightly with soil
- press carefully
- keep moist but not wet
- set up bright and warm
All palm seeds are hard-shelled and must swell. This increases the chance that the seeds will actually germinate.
Lay out one seed per pot. Cover it with a thin layer of substrate and lightly press down the soil.
Put the pots in a warm and bright place. Keep the substrate evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. You can also place the pots in clear plastic bags to keep soil moisture constant. You have to air the bags once a day so that the seeds don't get moldy.
Maintain young palm trees
It takes several months for the seeds of the fan palm to germinate. If you are lucky, you will find out the following spring whether you have successfully propagated the fan palm.
After the cotyledons have emerged, remove the plastic hood if necessary. Don't keep the seedlings too moist, but make sure they don't dry out either.
When the young palms have grown several centimeters high, you can transfer them to new pots. Continue caring for them like adult plants.
Protect from the sun for the first few months
Do not place the freshly propagated fan palms in the sun straight away, but slowly get them used to the light.
tips
Like all palms, the fan palm cannot be divided in order to propagate. However, some plants form side shoots that are suitable for propagation. They are cut off and placed in potting soil as cuttings.
