If the birch fig lingers on the summer balcony, it unfolds a harmonious and densely leafed appearance under the ideal lighting conditions. Hobby gardeners are therefore right to ask themselves whether their Benjamini can stay in the fresh air all year round. You can find out here whether the Ficus benjamina is actually hardy or whether it should be wintered better.

Tropical origin excludes winter hardiness
The birch fig found its way into our living and working spaces from the tropical rain forests. Because of their origins, your Benjamini has not learned to live with winter conditions. From May to September nothing speaks against a stay in the open air. Then overwinter the evergreen ornamental plant like this:
- Allow temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius
- Place in a bright spot at normal room temperatures
- Water moderately and stop fertilizing
- Spray with soft water once or twice a week
A recommended winter quarters is undoubtedly the light-flooded, slightly tempered bedroom.
