The triplet - also called bougainvillea or miracle flower - is valued for its abundance of flowers. It enchants every terrace and every conservatory. However, maintenance is not easy. How to care for triplets.

How do you water triplet flowers correctly?
The root ball should never dry out completely, but it shouldn't get too wet either. The triplet does not tolerate waterlogging!
Only water when the surface of the substrate is dry. Use soft water. Always pour off excess water immediately.
When do triplet flowers need to be fertilized?
Fertilize at monthly intervals from spring. During the flowering period, fertilize a triplet every two weeks with a fertilizer for flowering plants.
If you grow a triplet as a bonsai, the plant will be supplied with fertilizer more frequently during the summer.
How are bougainvilleas cut?
Triplets need pruning to allow them to branch vigorously and produce lots of new blooms.
In the spring, the shoots are shortened by half. Later, only slight shape cuts are made.
Before you put the bougainvillea into winter quarters in autumn, you can also cut it back so that the plant has enough space. Feel free to lighten them up a bit.
When is repotting on the agenda?
Repotting is always done when the pot is well rooted. With the fast growth of the plant, this can be the case every spring. It's time for a new pot when the roots are sticking out of the drainage hole at the bottom.
Which diseases and pests occur?
Powdery mildew is a common problem. This fungal disease shows up as gray or white coatings on the leaves. Reason is too high bale moisture or stagnant air.
Scale insects are more common as pests. If the infestation is mild, you can rub off the leaves. In the case of severe infestation, use commercially available sprays.
How is a triplet overwintered?
Triplets should be kept cooler at three to twelve degrees in winter. If the plant is too warm in winter, it will bloom little or not at all.
Water very sparingly. If the bougainvillea is overwintered in too dark a place, it will lose its leaves. This is normal.
tips
Triplets are very fast-growing. You therefore need a lot of space if you keep several specimens or want to propagate the plant yourself.
