Brown leaf tips that appear on the hemp palm do not always indicate diseases or incorrect care. Sometimes the discoloration of the leaves has completely natural causes. Often, however, a bad location or incorrect watering are responsible for the brown leaf tips.

Brown leaf tips do not necessarily indicate a problem

Causes of brown leaf tips of the hemp palm

If the leaf tips of the hemp palm discolour, there are various possible causes:

  • Stress after repotting
  • nutrient deficiency
  • too little light
  • cast wrong
  • frost damage
  • too low humidity
  • Diseases

If brown leaf tips, yellow or brown leaves appear after repotting, the hemp palm is suffering from stress. Does not matter. Simply cut off the leaves once they are completely dry. But be sure to leave a rest of four to six centimeters on the trunk.

Bright location with direct sunlight

Hemp palms like it very bright. If the palm is too dark, it not only stops growing, the leaves also discolour and dry out. This is first seen at the tips of the leaves.

Make sure that the hemp palm gets at least two to three hours of direct sunlight at its location - even in winter.

Brown leaf tips due to improper overwintering

Although hemp palms are considered hardy, they cannot cope with the sub-zero temperatures that often prevail in our latitudes. If it gets very cold in winter, the leaves will freeze.

It doesn't matter whether you overwinter a hemp palm outdoors or in a bucket - ensure adequate winter protection. This also applies to the heart of the palm, which you have to protect from both the cold and the wet.

Cover the fan palm with suitable materials:

  • garden fleece
  • burlap
  • coconut mats
  • fir branches

Place hemp palms in a protected place in the bucket so that the plant does not get too wet.

Cut off the brown tips of the leaves

You can cut off brown leaf tips with scissors.

Use sharp scissors, not knives. This prevents the interfaces from tearing and thus providing germs with a good breeding ground.

tips

When watering and fertilizing a hemp palm, you must be careful not to do too much or too little of a good thing. Always water only when the soil surface is completely dry and do not fertilize hemp palms too often.
