A hemp palm in a bucket does not have to be repotted that often because it grows relatively slowly. When is repotting on the agenda when caring for a hemp palm and what do you have to consider?

This tells you that the hemp palm needs to be repotted
Once roots start growing out of the bottom of the pot, it's time to repot the cannabis palm. Even if the palm tree seems to push itself out of the container, it needs a new pot.
When is the best time to repot the hemp palm?
The best time for repotting is early spring. Check to see if the hemp palm needs repotting when you bring it out of winter quarters.
Choose the right pot
Hemp palms form very long taproots. The pot for a hemp palm should therefore be deep rather than wide. A slim shape is more advantageous. But make sure that the bucket has a good stand and does not tip over easily.
There must be one or more drainage holes at the bottom so that irrigation water can drain off and no waterlogging forms.
It is advisable to create a drainage of sand or gravel in the bottom of the pot.
Which substrate is suitable?
You can use normal garden soil as a substrate, which you can make more water-permeable with some gravel, sand, quartz sand (€15.85) or lava granules (€13.99).
Special palm soil is not required for hemp palms, as this type of palm is quite undemanding.
How to repot hemp palms
- Pot the hemp palm
- shake off old substrate
- fill a new pot with fresh soil
- Insert hemp palm carefully
- Fill in the soil and press down carefully
- water regularly
- do not place in direct sunlight
The new pot should only be slightly deeper and wider than the old one.
Do not fertilize after repotting
After repotting, you must not fertilize the hemp palm for several months. The fresh soil contains sufficient nutrients. With additional fertilizer there is a risk of over-fertilization.
tips
A hemp palm that you have planted outdoors is very difficult to transplant again. Usually the palm trees are too big and the roots too deep in the ground. Find a suitable location where the palm tree will not bother you later.
