Brown leaves on a hemp palm primarily indicate care errors. With proper care, you can prevent the leaves from turning brown. What causes brown leaves and how do you prevent discoloration?

Causes of brown leaves on hemp palms
- lack of light
- watered too much or too little
- low humidity
- frost
- rarely nutrient deficiencies
Hemp palms need a lot of light. Few new fronds form in semi-shade, old leaves turn brown and die. Therefore, make sure you choose a location that is as sunny as possible.
Wrong watering
Water hemp palms regularly, but only after the surface of the soil is completely dry. Avoid waterlogging.
Low humidity is common when keeping indoors. You can remedy this by regularly spraying the leaves with low-lime water.
Brown leaves from frost damage
Even if the hemp palm is hardy and tolerates temperatures down to -18 degrees, the leaves can freeze. This frost damage is not due to cold, but rather to too much moisture during the winter.
If you overwinter hemp palms in the garden bed, cover the fronds with burlap or garden fleece to protect them from freezing.
Hemp palms in buckets don't tolerate that much cold. They should be overwintered at a maximum of -6 degrees. If it gets colder, bring them inside. Place them in a cool but bright place.
tips
The brown leaves do not look very decorative. You are welcome to cut them, but only when the leaves are completely dry. Leave a residue of at least four centimeters on the trunk.
