The easy-care rubber tree is not one of the very thirsty plants, on the contrary. Water it too much, because it easily gets yellow leaves or even sheds them. Therefore, you should only water it moderately.

In the sun, the rubber tree needs a little more water

It is best to only water your rubber tree when the soil on the surface has dried slightly. This will prevent waterlogging and root rot. Your rubber tree does not need fertilizer in large quantities either. Add a little liquid fertilizer to the irrigation water about every six weeks.

Is there an alternative to watering?

If you don't want to water your rubber tree, you can immerse it instead. The entire planter should be under water until the soil has completely soaked. You can tell by the fact that no more air bubbles rise. Now take the pot out of the water and let it drain thoroughly.

Place the pot on a saucer or in a planter, then check again after a few minutes whether water has collected there and pour it off again. Supplied in this way with water, the rubber tree survives a short holiday quite well. However, it should not stand in the blazing sun.

The essentials in brief:

  • Water moderately, preferably only when the soil is dry
  • Alternative to watering: diving
  • Absolutely avoid waterlogging

tips

Your rubber tree tolerates a few days of drought far better than waterlogging. Therefore, refrain from watering yourself copiously, for example before your vacation.
