Palm trees enchant terraces, balconies and the garden with their southern flair. Unfortunately, most palm species are not hardy and cannot be planted directly outdoors. Overwintering palm trees in the apartment or in the house is possible without any problems.
The warmer the location, the more light the palm tree needs
The right place
You can use the palm tree:
- in the frost-free garage or in the basement
- in the cool stairwell or hallway
- in warm living spaces
hibernate.
The need for light
This depends on the location. The higher the temperature, the more light the plant needs.
The care
Water the palm a little more sparingly in the winter months, but never let the substrate dry out completely. There is no fertilization at all during this time. Make sure there is sufficient humidity to prevent pests from settling on the plant.

If the palm moves back outdoors in spring, it must be carefully accustomed to the changed conditions. First place the plant in a sheltered, sunny place and only after about two weeks in the final location.
