Winter protection for your roses begins when you buy them: If you choose frost-hardy types and varieties and consider your roses with preventive measures, you are already halfway through the cold season.

Most types of roses can easily be overwintered outside in a pot - with winter protection, of course

Well packed for the winter rest

Move the potted roses together in a sheltered place (e.g. on a warm house wall) and cover the surface of the earth with brushwood. Protect the pots with bubble wrap or reed mats that remain open at the top. You can fill in the gaps with wood shavings or leaves. Don't forget to water on frost-free days to avoid dry damage. Sometimes protected roses sprout too early, you should try to prevent this with the help of fir branches or frost protection fleece.

tips

You can also put your potted roses in the basement, in the garage or in the unheated conservatory for the winter - ideally at temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius. However, it must not get warmer than 10 degrees Celsius, otherwise the plants will sprout.
