As an entry into the hobby of carnivore breeding, the Venus flytrap is not necessarily suitable because of the complex maintenance. You should already have some experience with carnivorous plants. Tips and tricks for breeding Venus Flytraps.

The correct location for the Venus Flytrap
Venus fly traps need a location that must meet many requirements:
- constant temperatures of 20 - 32 degrees
- very bright - as sunny as possible
- constant humidity between 60 and 80 percent
A standard flower window is not ideal for breeding a Venus Flytrap.
The maintenance of the Venus flytrap is complex
Proper watering plays a particularly important role in maintenance. The plant substrate must never dry out completely. The best way to cultivate a Venus flytrap is to use the damming method. The pot is placed in a high saucer, which is filled with water one to two centimeters high.
Only rainwater may be used. Alternatively, pour with still mineral water or distilled water. Tap water is too hard for Venus fly traps.
Do not feed!
Even if the traps tempt you to do so - it is better not to feed the plants. They take care of themselves with flying insects and from the plant substrate. Fertilizing Venus flytraps is also superfluous and more likely to harm them.
Also, keep in mind that the traps open a maximum of seven times. After that they dry out.
If you decide to feed your Venus flytrap for demonstration purposes, only feed a single live insect that is not too large.
Propagating Venus Flytrap
You can propagate the carnivorous plants yourself at home. Cultivation succeeds via seeds or division of the Venus flytrap if it is large enough.
Offshoots can also be grown from leaf cuttings.
Overwinter Venus flytrap
Venus flytraps go dormant in winter. This can be recognized by the blackening leaves and the only very small new catch traps.
The plant must now be placed cooler at around 10 to 16 degrees. It needs much less moisture in winter.
tips
Venus flytraps are not drawn for the flowers, but for the conspicuous snap traps. You should cut the flowers as soon as possible so that the plant has more strength to form new traps.
