Some sundew species are hardy and can remain outdoors all year round. Other varieties come from tropical and subtropical regions. They do not tolerate sub-zero temperatures and are therefore grown indoors all year round.

How do you overwinter sundew?

Native Drosera is hardy. The rosettes retract and plants form winter buds that sprout again in spring. A special hibernation is therefore not necessary.

Sundew species that are not hardy should be kept indoors all year round. Some cultivars prefer a winter dormancy when temperatures need to be kept lower. You can also get by with less water during this time.

Other Drosera varieties need consistent temperatures and sufficient light throughout the year. If in doubt, find out what type of overwintering is recommended for your plant.

tips

Even non-hardy Drosera species like it when they can enjoy fresh air on the balcony or terrace for a few weeks in summer. However, make sure that the plants do not dry out.
