With its rich red giant flowers, the knight's star brings color into the wintry home. This floral masterpiece is by no means limited to the hippeastrum in the pot. With the right care program, an amaryllis spreads its exotic flair as a cut flower in the vase for 2 weeks or longer. Read here how to do it.

They prepare a knight's star for a long flowering period in the vase when it is horticulturally made up. Cutting alone is not enough for these idiosyncratic cut flowers. How to do it right:
- Put on gloves to avoid skin contact with the poisonous plant sap
- Cut 4-5 cm from the end of the stem with a sharp, disinfected knife
- Push a narrow wooden stick or floral wire into the hollow flower stalk
- Wrap the shaft end with raffia tape or adhesive tape
As a cut flower, a knight star tends to split and curl up its stem ends. Although this predisposition does not affect the durability, the well-groomed appearance suffers. To ensure that a stem does not buckle under the heavy load of its mighty flowers, the stick inside the stem provides the necessary stability.

Ordinary tap water turns into an invigorating elixir of life when you add a little nutrient solution for cut flowers. Please use water at room temperature - neither ice cold nor warm. Since a star star absorbs moisture throughout its stem, fill the vase at least halfway. We would like to recommend the following care details:
- Place the vase in a light spot with temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius
- Change the flower water as soon as it becomes cloudy
- Trim the shaft ends if they turn light brown
Typically, not all buds open at the same time on the Ritterstern. Therefore, clean off faded flowers to make room for the stragglers underneath.
tips
You can conjure up a vertical bouquet of flowers for Advent in no time at all from different, long-stemmed varieties of Ritterstern. You can create a stylish tone-in-tone blend with the deep red Amaryllis Benfica, the light red Amaryllis Ferrari and the pink Amaryllis Rosalie. A pink silk ribbon holds the stem ends together. Red tulle and a fluorescent cord give the bouquet a classy touch.
