Too often, wilted amaryllis ends up in the compost. At the end of the flowering period, a knight star signals how much vitality it still has when its leaves sprout. Read here how to care for a hippeastrum to flower again.

If there is no winter flowering, the amaryllis can be stimulated to bloom in summer

Care program for a flower revival - Here's how

When an amaryllis stops blooming, we miss its colorful appearance on the wintry windowsill. It's a good thing that you increase the chances of reblooming with the following care measures. How to do it right:

  • Snip the wilted flowers from the main stem with sharp, clean scissors
  • Continue watering the knight star in the bright, warm location
  • Only cut the hollow inflorescence stem in March when it has yellowed
  • Place the plant in a sunny, warm spot in the garden or on the balcony from mid-May
  • Fertilize liquid every 14 days from May to July

Parallel to the end of the flowering period, the fresh leaves sprout on the Ritterstern. This is the signal for the start of the summer growth period, which is accompanied by a targeted supply of nutrients. Outdoors, your star star will now find the ideal climatic conditions to motivate it to bloom again.

Sink the amaryllis into the ground with the pot

They cause a sensation in the summer flower bed when an opulent knight's star is in full bloom. Resourceful hobby gardeners plant the amaryllis with their tuft of leaves in a sunny spot in the ground from mid-May. The pot acts as an effective protection against voracious voles. Regularly watered and fertilized, with a little luck a fresh inflorescence will rise from the bulb.

tips

Amaryllis bulbs are superlative powerhouses. From a diameter of 10 cm, they even produce two vital flower stalks. Each of these hollow stalks carries up to 4 magnificent flowers that reach a whopping 15 to 20 cm in diameter. In a sunny, warm location, a single Ritterstern flower can last up to 3 weeks in a pot or vase.
