Professional hibernation sets the course for a magnificent blooming knight star. You can find out here how to treat the onion properly during its rest period.

Dormant period extends from August to December
Calendar-wise, the hibernation of an Amaryllis ends before the onset of winter. In order for a star star to brighten up the Advent and Christmas season with its exotic blossoms, the bulb needs a resting phase in advance. It depends on this care:
- Stop watering and fertilizing after August
- Move the star of knights to a dark, cool place in September
- In October, cut off the drawn-in leaves from the onion
Hibernation runs smoothly when temperatures are between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Given this dark, dry and cool environment, the bulb can regenerate and gather new strength for another flowering period.
This is how the hibernation ends
In November, the lull is coming to an end. The anticipation of a picturesque knight star blossom increases. Now take a close look at the plant. If root strands grow out of the opening in the bottom of the pot, the onion is too narrow in its pot. Therefore, plant the amaryllis in fresh substrate. From this point on, water regularly again. At the same time, the knight's star resumes its accustomed place on the sunny, warm window sill.
tips
Repot a knight star at the end of wintering, keep an eye out for spawning bulbs for propagation. A diligently cared for onion produces daughter onions. From a diameter of 3 cm, cut off the offspring. Potted in a mix of potting soil and cactus soil, the mini bulbs transform into a new amaryllis in no time at all.
