The hardy carnation needs protection from too much moisture rather than from low temperatures. However, special care is not necessary. However, balcony plants are sensitive to frost.

Protect your planters from freezing temperatures on all sides by wrapping an old blanket around the planter and/or placing it on a thick polystyrene sheet (€35.50). Alternatively, overwinter your carnation in a greenhouse where temperatures don't dip far below freezing.
The essentials in brief:
- in the bed protection required only in extreme frost
- Protection against excessive moisture is usually more important than frost protection
- Pot and balcony plants need winter protection
- Also protect planters from frost from below (old cover or thick styrofoam plate)
- Alternative: Hibernation in an unheated greenhouse (frost-free or low frost)
tips
Carnations in the balcony box need winter protection or a suitable winter quarters, while bedding plants primarily need protection against excessive moisture.
