The garden amaryllis is an exotic flower treasure that surprises us with unusual demands on care and planting. Good to know that the onion flower is not out of the ordinary, at least in terms of planting time. Read here when the tropical grace wants to go into the ground and what to pay special attention to.

Garden amaryllis bulbs are planted in spring

Planting time is in spring

With a view to the frost sensitivity of a Crinum, please wait until the ice saints have left before planting. When there are no more ground frosts from mid-May, the planting season begins. How to do it right:

  • Dig a pit 25-30 cm deep in a sunny, warm spot
  • A layer of sand on the bottom of the pit serves as drainage against waterlogging
  • Enrich the excavation with horn shavings (€32.93) and compost

Please plant the garden amaryllis so that the bulb neck protrudes from the ground. This circumstance usually requires a horizontal, lying position of the tuber. When watering, no water should get into the neck of the onion.
