Before the garden wakes up from its hibernation, the easy-care winter jasmine shows its first flowers. In a mild winter this can happen as early as December, otherwise it should be in January. The flowering period lasts until about April.

The yellow flowers don't mind freezing temperatures at all

The flowers can easily freeze to death in icy winds, so you should plant your winter jasmine in a wind-protected place. The buds are not quite as sensitive, they tolerate cold down to - 15 °C. The winter jasmine prefers a sunny location or light shade. It does not tolerate waterlogging very well, so make sure that the soil is loose and well drained.

The essentials in brief:

  • Flowering period: January to April
  • Flower color: yellow
  • Buds tolerate frost down to - 15 °C
  • Flowers somewhat more sensitive to frost than the buds
  • sunny to partially shaded location

tips

Plant your winter jasmine in a sheltered spot. There, the risk of the flowers freezing to death in the icy wind is much lower.
