The easy-care winter jasmine does not need regular pruning to thrive, but it tolerates it very well. This way it branches better and forms plenty of new shoots on which it can bloom next winter.

When is the best time to cut back?
If the flowering period is over around April, then the right time has come for pruning. Winter jasmine blooms on the annual shoots, not on the old ones. Shorten the shoots to about a fifth of their previous length and the plant will sprout again. Your winter jasmine will quickly regain its old size because it is very vigorous.
Older plants should be pruned about every three years in order to stay in good shape and develop enough flowering shoots. If you have not pruned your winter jasmine for a few years or only a little, then it can also be a radical pruning. The plant recovers from this quite quickly.
If you forgot to cut back in the spring, you don't necessarily have to wait until next year. The winter jasmine can also tolerate a cut in summer. However, you should not then proceed too radically so that your winter jasmine will have a few shoots on which flowers will form in the coming winter.
Pruning winter jasmine in the bucket
The winter jasmine in the bucket in particular can tolerate regular pruning so that it does not become too expansive. If you give the plant a support, it will reach a height of up to 2 m. Without a climbing aid, it will only be about half as tall. If the winter jasmine in the bucket is too big for you, then it can be radically cut back once in a while.
Cut winter jasmine for the vase
You can also cut winter jasmine very well for the vase. The best time to do this is just before the flowers open. Depending on the weather, this can be as early as December or as late as January.
Cut off some shoots of your winter jasmine with a particularly large number of buds. Since the winter jasmine has no foliage at this time, combine the branches with some fir green or with branches of evergreen plants. So you have a beautiful winter bouquet for your home, ideally even at Christmas.
The most important tips for cutting winter jasmine:
