In nature, meadow sage occurs on meadows, on field edges, field paths, on fallow land and occasionally even on roadsides. The wild plant thrives wherever it is dry and sunny. In a good location, it will also grow in the garden for many years.

Meadow sage likes it sunny and dry

The right location for meadow sage

The most important criteria for the location of meadow sage are:

  • sunny
  • dry
  • nutritious or poor soil
  • likes calcareous
  • without waterlogging

Meadow sage only blooms for many weeks in a sunny location. The plant takes care of itself in shady places and forms only a few sterile flowers.

Whether the potting soil is nutritious or lean doesn't matter much. Meadow sage does well with both options as long as the soil is dry and permeable to water.

tips

Like all types of sage, meadow sage is not poisonous. It is used internally and externally as a tea. The fresh leaves have a cooling and anti-inflammatory effect on insect bites when crushed and pressed onto the bite site.
