When tulips bloom in the middle of winter, the flowers come from forcing in the greenhouse or from cultivation in distant lands. However, this sales strategy runs counter to responsible ecology. The following overview may serve as your orientation when flowers in the shop come from the true tulip blossom of the open field:

Tulips bloom in spring
  • Outdoor cultivation: March, April, May, June
  • Greenhouse: December, January, February
  • Import goods: July, August, September, October, November, December

You can therefore buy fresh tulips all year round. Flowers grown in harmony with nature, on the other hand, will still only be available in spring. Even under local cultivation conditions, commercial gardeners apply more than 50 kilograms of chemicals per hectare of tulips. We can only guess how much off-season toxins are required for tulips.

Cultivation in autumn for a timely tulip bloom

You follow the rhythm of nature when you plant your tulips in late autumn. The flower bulbs receive the necessary cold stimulus without any artificial energy expenditure, in order to transform into magnificent spring flowers from the end of March/beginning of April.
