Roses are among the most popular ornamental plants of all, no wonder, because their beautiful flowers are second to none. At the same time, however, the flower is considered to be quite demanding in terms of care and location. At least in relation to the real earth, this statement is not entirely correct.

Roses like well-drained, nutrient-rich soil

Special rose soil not absolutely necessary

You can buy special rose soil on the market, the composition and nutrient content of which is perfectly tailored to the needs of the "queen of flowers". However, it is not absolutely necessary to buy this special soil. For potted roses, you can make a suitable mixture yourself from normal garden soil, compost and potting soil (each in equal parts) (do not forget the drainage!). Garden roses are best placed in nutrient-rich, humus-rich and well-drained soil. Most roses prefer loamy soil.

Prepare the soil thoroughly before planting

However, the best soil is of no use to the rose if it is not dug up and loosened before planting. You should work as deeply as possible, because as deep-rooted roses also need loose soil deep down.

tips

You can also improve garden soil (especially if it is rather sandy) with compost or other humic substances before planting.
