Which rose groups are distinguished?

Various groups of roses can be distinguished, which differ more or less from each other not only in terms of growth habit, flowers and flower colors, but also in their requirements and properties. But whether wild or cultivated roses, they all belong to the large rose family (Rosaceae).

Old garden roses

This group includes above all the cultivated roses, also known as old or historical roses, which demonstrably existed before 1867 - this year, 'La France' was the first modern hybrid tea rose to be presented. Incidentally, this classification does not apply to the individual breed, but to the group to which it belongs. The so-called old roses include u. French Rose (Gallica), Damask Rose, Portland Rose, Bourbon Rose, Alba Rose, Moss Rose and Noisette Rose.

Modern garden roses

This group includes the large-flowering shrub roses, which are also known as tea hybrids or hybrid teas and are bred primarily for cutting. They produce only a few, but very large individual flowers. The cluster-flowering shrub roses or bed roses tirelessly form much smaller, but very many flowers. So-called patio roses refer to cluster-flowering dwarf shrub roses, they are ideal for pot culture. Miniature roses and ground cover roses are also available.
