The 'Rose de Resht' is a very old rose, of which nobody knows exactly when and how it actually came about. It is usually sold as ungrafted, which makes sense (make sure not to buy a 'Rose de Resht' that has just been grafted or grafted!). The 'Rose de Resht' is extremely hardy and also very robust. Since it is free of any copyright, you can not only buy it very cheaply, but also multiply it yourself as you wish.

The 'Rose de Resht' can be propagated by cuttings, among other things

Propagation by root suckers

This is done particularly easily via so-called root suckers, which the 'Rose de Resht' produces in abundance. This type of rose is extremely vigorous and will quickly outgrow you unless it is pruned regularly or even kept in a tub. In late summer or autumn, simply cut off the root suckers with a spade and carefully dig them out. The young plants can then be immediately moved to their new location.

Propagate 'Rose de Resht' by cuttings

Propagation via cuttings also works very well with the robust 'Rose de Resht'. The approximately 15 to 20 centimeters long, well woody cuttings are cut in August or September and should be placed individually in plant pots and overwintered in a cool but frost-free place.

  • If possible, cut several cuttings from shoots that have just flowered.
  • Hold the cutting surface at a slight angle to make it easier for the cutting to absorb water.
  • Remove the flower head and all side shoots and leaves except for the top pair of leaves.
  • Dip the cut surface to be rooted in a rooting substrate.
  • Plant each cutting individually in a plant pot.
  • This should be filled with good potting soil.
  • Water the cutting well.
  • Put a PET bottle cut in half or a disposable glass over it.
  • This serves as a mini greenhouse.
  • The cutting should be in a light but not directly sunny location.

Sticks of wood can also be used well

Propagation via cuttings works in a similar way to cuttings, except that these are kept over the winter and only planted in spring. The at least 20 centimeters long, well wooded and completely leafless and side shoot-free trees are cut in winter and then wrapped in damp cloths and stored in a cool and dark place. In the spring they are either planted in pots or straight into the bed.

tips

If you want to plant a rose hedge, you can do this from as many 'Rose de Resht' cuttings as possible - this vigorous rose variety is ideal for such a project.
