If the pond is too shallow, the weather is usually too rough in winter or the water lily species is too sensitive, then overwintering makes sense. But how exactly should it look and be carried out?

Hardy water lily species overwinter
Although native water lilies are sufficiently hardy, they can freeze to death if the water depth is too shallow. How to overwinter them properly:
- get out of the pond in November
- Fill buckets or buckets with water
- Place the water lily in there
- place in a frost-free, cool, dark location
Tropical water lily species overwinter
If you have planted a tropical water lily, you should overwinter it as follows:
- dig up from the end of September
- Hibernation in the house or other heatable buildings
- e.g. B. in aquarium, bucket, bucket
- Water temperature: ideally 23 to 25 °C
- lots of light
tips
Water lilies need neither fertilizer nor pruning during the winter. They should only be checked regularly for pests and diseases.
