Bed roses are also known as floribunda or polyantha roses. They are very bushy shrubs with umbel-like, rich inflorescences. Most bed roses are among the varieties that bloom more often and thus ensure lush flowers throughout the summer. Many types of bed roses are also very suitable for smaller gardens.

Which location should you choose for bed roses?
Like all roses, bed roses also prefer a sunny and airy location, with many varieties even thriving in partially shaded places. However, never plant new bed roses in a location where roses have previously stood.
In which soil do bed roses feel comfortable?
Bed roses prefer nutrient-rich and well-drained soil. Heavy, loamy substrates should be upgraded with plenty of sand, while substrates that are too sandy should be upgraded with compost.

The best time to plant roses is autumn, when the plants have already shed their leaves but the weather is still relatively mild and frost-free. Bare root goods are generally of higher quality than container goods.
How far apart should several bed roses be planted?
The ideal planting distance depends on the vigor of the variety to be planted. Rather weak-growing (and thus tend to remain small) varieties are planted at a distance of 40 centimetres, while strong-growing ones are planted at around 60 centimetres.
What is the best way to plant bed roses?
When planting the bed roses, three things are particularly important:
- The soil must first be thoroughly loosened - also in depth.
- The grafting site should be buried so that the rootstock does not accidentally grow.
- After planting, the rose should be watered vigorously.
When do bed roses bloom?
Bed roses are perpetual bloomers, often blooming from early summer until the first frost. When buying, give preference to self-pollinating strains, as this saves you having to remove faded bud sites.
How can bed roses be propagated?
Bed roses are usually grafted by budding, but propagation via cuttings is not always successful.
Can you transplant bed roses?
It is also possible to replant older bed roses, provided this is done in autumn and the roots are affected as little as possible.
Can you also cultivate bed roses in pots?
Most types of bed roses can be kept very well in a sufficiently deep and wide (note - roses are deep-rooted!) tubs.
tips
Bed roses harmonize very well with perennials and shrubs that make similar demands on soil and care as they do - and also do not compete for light and nutrients. On the other hand, the Mediterranean perennials, such as lavender, which are often described as typical companions to roses, are less suitable.
