Not all varieties of ornamental onions are sufficiently hardy. They need a hibernation. Then there are those specimens that stand outside in buckets. They too should be overwintered. But how?

Dig up and quarter the onions
It is the case with very few types of ornamental onions that they do not tolerate frost. For these, you should dig up the bulbs in the fall:
- Clean onions
- place in a dry place to dry the surface
- Layer in sand or overwinter in an airy box in the basement
- bring out again in spring
If your ornamental onion is outside in the bucket, it should also be overwintered. Otherwise the onion threatens to freeze through in the tub. Bring the bucket in and put it in a frost-free but cool place over the winter!
tips
The temperatures should not be too warm during the winter. Otherwise, the onion will sprout during the winter.
