Whether freshly sprouting, during flowering or with its seed pods - the stinging nettle can be harvested over a long period of time. After the harvest, quick action is called for, because the essential oils quickly evaporate, vitamin C is lost and the leaves look ugly.

Nettles can also be used in soup

Put an end to burning hair

Nettles are known for their burning hairs. They don't exactly make picking without gloves a fun affair. When the stinging nettles are picked, the hairs can easily be rendered harmless.

If you want to eat nettle leaves fresh, take a leaf between your fingers and crush it. This process breaks the hairs and the nettle no longer burns. You can also destroy the hairs by placing the nettle leaves on a cloth, folding it over and rolling it over it with a rolling pin. Cooking and mixing also destroy the nettle's stinging hairs.

Process stinging nettle into liquid manure

The stinging nettle hairs do not necessarily have to be broken by grinding and the like. If you want to prepare liquid manure, you simply need to chop up the parts of the stinging nettle roughly, e.g. B. with scissors in a bucket of water. Further processing is not necessary, just regular stirring.

Process nettle into spinach

You don't have to buy spinach or grow it in the garden. Stinging nettles taste at least as good and also have far more nutrients. How to process the nettle leaves into nettle spinach:

  • separate leaves
  • sauté together with butter, onions and nutmeg
  • Pour in some water and heat for 20 minutes
  • salt and puree lightly - done

Nettle as a tea

The stinging nettle also tastes good as a tea - admittedly not for everyone… The stinging nettle leaves, blossoms and/or seeds can be dried for this, but they can also be used fresh.

The fresh or dried plant parts are poured with boiling water. Leave for 10 minutes, strain and you're done! Among other things, the tea helps to dehydrate the body. However, you have to drink about 3 cups of it a day.

tips

The root of the nettle can also be processed. Dried and ground into a powder, it is suitable for tea, for example.
