With its white or violet-reddish inflorescences, the Liatris spicata attracts many majestically floating butterflies to your own perennial bed between July and September. The quite exotic-looking plant is much less complex to care for than you might think.

The Prachtscharte thrives best in the sun and with little moisture

How often should you water the Prachtscharte?

Since the Prachtscharte does not tolerate the waterlogging that often occurs in heavy soil, locations with compacted subsoil should first be loosened up with compost, sand or gravel. However, the underground part of the plant should never dry out completely. In a longer dry phase, it is therefore advisable to water moderately at least every two to three days.

When can the Prachtscharte be repotted?

Specimens cultivated in pots should be repotted in the spring after the last night frosts, if possible.

When and how is the Prachtscharte cut?

The sapling can basically be cut as a cut flower, but the withered leaves can also be removed in autumn or spring with sharp pruning shears. Pruning immediately after flowering can potentially result in a second bloom in the same year.

Which pests and diseases occur with the plumage hare?

The robust splendor is usually spared from any pests and diseases. Deficiency symptoms can usually be caused by a problem with the following growth factors:

  • too little light
  • a too warm location
  • lack of nutrients in the substrate
  • waterlogging

Do you have to fertilize the Prachtscharte?

If splendor saplings grown in the bucket are repotted, a long-term fertilizer can be mixed under the substrate in the same step. Otherwise, it is sufficient for the Prachtscharte to administer a complete fertilizer every two to four weeks (only up to a maximum of August) or to use compost and mulch (€239.00) regularly as a nutrient supplier.

How does the Prachtscharte get through the winter without any problems?

Since the outlasting organ of the Prachtscharte lies below the surface of the earth, it is also hardy in the open air in this country without any problems. To ensure that the potted plants, which ideally also overwinter outdoors, are not so badly affected by frost temperatures, care must be taken to ensure that the inner volume of the plant pots used is as large as possible. If the roots of the blaze are very close to the inner side of the plaited wall, the following protective factors can make surviving the winter break more likely:

  • placing a styrofoam plate (€35.50) between the pot and the ground
  • a properly dosed water supply (especially with regard to frost or waterlogging)
  • wrapping in garden fleece or protective film
  • the timely unpacking of the Prachtscharte in spring

tips

You can significantly reduce the watering effort for the magnificent species in the garden if you apply a layer of mulch to the soil at the chosen location before planting. This not only stores a certain amount of moisture, but also better protects the soil from drying out due to wind and sun.
