The often intensively scented evening primroses (Oenothera) with their often very colorful flowers in yellow, pink or white are an ornament for every garden. The perennial shows its flowers all summer long, and it can often be encouraged to flower a second time.

The first flowers of the evening primrose appear in June

Blooms all summer long

In the right location, evening primroses bloom between June and September, although this perennial has a special feature: it only opens its flowers in the evening hours and closes them again in the morning. In addition, the evening primrose can easily be stimulated to a second flowering, provided you remove faded shoots. A pruning towards the end of winter also ensures that flowering begins earlier and a second flowering is more likely.

tips

Evening primroses self-seed very reliably, but you have to leave the faded parts standing for this. It is also important to protect the seed pods from hungry birds - they find evening primrose seeds very tasty.
