How hardy is the cylinder brush?

The cylinder brush cannot be described as hardy. At least he does not survive the winter periods in this country without protection. Even temperatures below 10 °C can damage it. It is more of a container culture plant that can be outside in the summer and should be brought in from the fall.

Does the cylinder brush have to be overwintered?

If your cylinder brush is outside on the balcony or terrace, you should put it inside in September, at least if you want to enjoy it next year. Hibernation is absolutely necessary for its survival.

Which place is suitable for wintering?

Wintering in a room is recommended. The winter quarters should have the following characteristics:

  • bright
  • not exposed to direct sun
  • to ventilate well
  • 5 to 10 °C cool
  • the warmer the place, the more light is required

How can you get the plant outside through the winter?

If necessary, the cylinder brush can also be wintered outside in warm regions if it is properly packed. However, temperatures should never fall below -5 °C. If you have a bottlebrush tree, wrap its trunk with fleece or foil. The root area is covered with leaves and brushwood. If necessary, the young shoots are wrapped in a jute sack (€10.99).

What is important when wintering?

During the winter, this plant needs watering. Their foliage is evergreen and will not shed. Therefore, it needs a lot of water even in winter. However, fertilizer should be avoided. It is also important to ventilate the wintering room regularly.
